Trade Associations - BMRA
The British Metals Recycling Association was formed in 2001 as an amalgamation of the British Metals Federation and the British Secondary Metals Association,
the history going back to the end of the first World War. These Associations now cover ferrous and non-ferrous recycling aspects of the UK from their Headquarters in Brampton in Cambridgeshire. The Association besides representing what is now the membership of both and former bodies takes a lead role in representing metals recycling not just in the UK, but internationally and is headed up by full time staff at their Headquarters; giving them a powerful voice and lobbying force at the highest levels of National and Local Government as well.
BIR is the only international federation of industries involved in the recovery and recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, paper, textiles and plastics. We have more than
600 members in 60 countries. BIR's primary goals are to promote the recycling of new and obsolete goods thereby conserving natural resources, and facilitating free trade of recyclables in an environmentally
sound manner.
